Domo-Kun Fondant Cake
Originally uploaded by d.clin.design
My wife made me this cake for my birthday. It was her 3rd fondant cake. All original design of a Domo-Kun theme. From far away, it looks like a plastic toy. From close up it looks like a clay model. It’s so cute that I don’t even want to cut it. I think we might just leave it until it finally grow moldy.
The cake was shot with Canon 5D MKII, 24-70mm 2.8L, and my new birthday lens Canon 100mm 2.8L Macro.
Watch Collections

These are not all my watches. It was a product photo session in collabration with Henry Collantes.
It was quite interesting how we figure out this setup. Henry originally wanted to take a shot similar to one he saw on Watchuseek. Essentially it looks very similar to the Seiko Orange Monster in this set. After numerous trial and error, we just couldn’t light the background and keep the bezel of the watch white. After some thoughts, I dig into my arsenal of photo tips and decided to try some light painting technique. Hold and behold, that created the effect that we were looking for with the limited equipments that we had.
Many thanks to Henry for spending hours with me on figuring this out. Not to mention Henry makes a great flash holder.
This first shot is a collection. Subsequent are the individual images.
The only post processing done was cropping. All shot were done in a Soft Light Box with a sheet of black acrylic.
Shot with Canon 5D MKII, Canon 24-70mm 2.8L, Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro, Canon 480 Speedlight, Surefire Digital 2 Ultra (Thanks Chad for making buy this!! Finally found some good use for it)
Crystal and Devon

This was a Portrait session done on March 14, 2010. It was actually a photo seminar put up by Jigar (A local wedding/engagement photographer) He setup a 4 part session starting with planning, actual shooting, editing, and post processing. He was able to find this couple (Crystal and Devon) whom recently got engaged. There were 7 photographers chasing them around North Beach, SF for a good 3 hours. Very nice couple and quite photogenic.
The day was beautiful. I couldn’t asked for a better photo shooting weather. It was a big change from all the raining weather we been getting here. As such, I found out that I ended up under exposing a lot of my shots since there was so much light around. The session started around 2:00pm and ended around 5:00pm. The set show here are my favorite 5 pictures. The couple were wearing a black and white theme thus I had to leverage their clothing and converted couple shots as black and white.
Overall, it was a great experience. Learned quite a bit about how to approach and converse with the subjects. I must say, doing couple portraits really made me think more about composition and modeling the couple.
All the shots were done with Canon 5D MKII and Canon 85mm 1.2L

I got inspired to take this set of photos after staring at my son’s new toy he got from attending a recent birthday party. I decided to gather up all his Disney’s Cars toys and do a quick set.
